About Chen Kai

Chen Kai, Choreographer and Dancer, founder of "Classifiable Movement".

His enlightenment in professional dance was initiated by Jin Xing(China), Jutta Hell (Germany) and Dieter Baumann(Germany), and afterwards he has been learning from a myriad of dance artists, while enriching his experience as a choreographer / dancer on stage internationally.

In 2001, he joined Jin Xing Dance Theatre/Shanghai as a professional dancer/choreographer.

In 2005, Kai received full-scholarship from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts to study both "Professional Diploma Program in Dance" and further "Master of Fine Arts Program".

In 2008, Chen Kai won "Désirée and Hans Michael Jebsen Arts Fellowship" from Asian Cultural Council, which supported his dance research in New York City.

In 2012, he settled in Hong Kong with "Quality Migrant Admission Scheme", where he started to carry out the belief ‘let the movement speak for itself’ by his innovative choreography method ‘Classifiable Movement’.

In 2014, Kai was honored as an "Alumni Star" in the 30th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

In 2015, his full-length piece Circle II was nominated three awards of "2015 Hong Kong Dance Awards" as "Outstanding Achievement in Choreography", "Outstanding Independent Dance Production", and finally won "Outstanding Achievement in Music for Dance".
